Do SPC floors come with a warranty? What is covered?

SPC flooring at Material Depot ships with manufacturer warranties - but the duration, coverage and exclusions vary significantly across brands, wear-layer thickness and price points. This is what we recommend buyers actually understand before purchase, beyond the marketing number on the box.

WARRANTY DURATIONS BY SPC TIER:

1. ENTRY-LEVEL SPC (0.3mm wear layer, 4mm thickness, Indian or Chinese mass-market manufacturer): typically 10-12 years residential warranty. Suitable for low-traffic rooms, secondary bedrooms, rental properties.

2. MID-RANGE SPC (0.5mm wear layer, 5mm thickness, Korean or upper-tier Chinese manufacturer): typically 15-20 years residential. The sweet spot for most Indian homes - covers living, bedroom, kitchen.

3. PREMIUM SPC (0.5-0.7mm wear layer, 5-6mm thickness, ceramic-bead UV coat, European or premium Korean manufacturer): typically 20-25 years residential, 5-10 years light commercial.

4. IMPORTED EUROPEAN PREMIUM (German, Belgian, or top-tier Korean - e.g. premium Mikasa, Pergo): 25-30 years residential, 10 years commercial.

WHAT THE WARRANTY ACTUALLY COVERS:

1. Manufacturing defects - delamination of the wear layer from the core, click-joint failure, dimensional defects, decor film printing errors. These are rare on premium product but covered.

2. Wear-through of the wear layer under normal residential traffic during the warranty period.

3. UV fade resistance - typically rated for indoor use only, with windows that have normal residential glazing.

4. Stain resistance - covered if you use approved cleaners on the brand's list.

WHAT THE WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER (common exclusions):

1. Damage from improper installation - always use Material Depot's empanelled installers or a brand-certified installer. DIY installation often voids warranty.

2. Water damage from rising damp through a wet subfloor. Concrete subfloors should be moisture-tested (3-5% RH max) and treated with a damp-proof membrane if needed before SPC install.

3. Heavy point-load damage - gym equipment, industrial machinery, dropped heavy objects.

4. Damage from incompatible cleaners - steam mops are the #1 warranty-voiding issue. Also bleach, ammonia, harsh solvents, abrasive scrubs.

5. UV fade from direct outdoor sun exposure (uncovered balconies, conservatories with direct south-facing afternoon sun).

6. Damage from pets with untrimmed claws or sharp toys.

7. Aesthetic damage from furniture dragged without felt pads.

CLAIM PROCESS AT MATERIAL DEPOT:

1. Keep your Material Depot invoice and the brand-issued warranty card / pamphlet that comes inside every box.

2. Photograph the issue clearly - wide shot showing the affected area, close-up showing the specific defect, and a shot showing your invoice number.

3. Contact Material Depot post-sales - we coordinate the brand inspection on your behalf. Most premium brands send an inspector within 7-14 days.

4. If the claim is approved, the brand replaces the affected planks. For older floors where the design is discontinued, the brand typically offers the closest current equivalent or a partial credit.

Practical advice: take photographs of your finished floor on the day of installation - these are useful baseline images if a warranty claim arises years later.
